DURATION: One-year course with 3 terms, 10 weeks per term, 2 hours per week
2017 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Mode of Attendance: Part-time
A one-year weekday evening course in Modern Standard Arabic for advanced students who have completed the upper intermediate level course or its equivalent
The course aims to reinforce the skill of communicating in Modern Standard Arabic acquired on the Upper Intermediate course or similar courses. Having completed the course students should be able to:
in a ‘real world’ setting, understand meaning from the written and spoken context and with the help of grammatical indicators;
initiate and sustain conversations on a variety of topics;
be familiar with the difference between formal and spoken Arabic.
Method
The course is taught in English and Arabic and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Arabic grammar and vocabulary, developing the skills of comprehending and producing Arabic in speech and writing, guided practice in language usage and use and authentic communicative activities. Class size is limited to fifteen to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.
