Modern Standard Arabic-Beginner

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Open to students who:

  • Pass the Elementary Level “The Arabic Alphabet”.
  • Know how to read and write or have passed the placement test and succeeded in this level.
  • Have experience in using the Internet and the ability to learn how to use our LMS – Moodle.

Objective:

  • The general objective of this course is to provide a general foundation in the language and culture to cope with a range of predictable, everyday communicative situations encountered when interacting at a basic level, orally and in writing, with native speakers.
  • Another objective of this course is to increase your proficiency in oral, aural and written Arabic, to improve reading, comprehension, speaking and writing skills. This includes some specialized phrases in greetings and acquaintance, basic vocabulary that helps form these sentences and using verbs in different tenses.
  • Students are required and encouraged to use Arabic in class discussion.
  • This is based on 3 Levels. Each level consists of synchronous and asynchronous The synchronous activities consist of approximately 25 hours of interactive classes. The asynchronous activities are used to monitor private studying.

 

Method:

  • The course is taught in Arabic and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Authentic audio, video, and reading materials are presented from the very beginning, and students are encouraged to be creative with the language in and out of class.
  • There will be guided practice in language usage and authentic communicative activities.
  • This course will consist of a variety of activities (both online and offline) designed to evaluate your abilities to accomplish the intended learning outcomes such as; a Glossary, Single & Folder Choice, Assignments and Quizzes.
  • Independent reading skills are improved in every lesson, giving students confidence and motivation.
  • Positive reading, writing and comprehension habits will be developed for future studies and work.
  • Class size is limited to five students to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.

  • Abdel Rahman E. Alfawzan, Mokhtar A. Hussien and Mohammed A. Fadl, Arabic between your hands “Al-Arabiya bayn yadaik”-(2nd Ed.), Saudi Arabia (KSA).
  • Additional Materials presented from our institute.
  • Over this entire course, students are required to use the whiteboard on the internet to take quizzes and retrieve assignment updates designed to evaluate your abilities to accomplish the intended learning outcomes.

 Participation:

Attendance and active participation are very necessary to achieve the stated goals.

Level 1

  • Telling the time
  • Talking about daily activities
  • Grammar:
  • Personal pronouns, possessive pronouns
  • Masculine and feminine
  • Adjectives
  • Negation
  • Verb ‘to work’
  • Vocabulary:
  • Names of places
  • Daily activities
  • Morning, noon, afternoon, evening, night
  • Family members
  • Some jobs and some flat items

Course Outline:

  • The student will have the ability to do the following: communicate, identify him or herself to others, talk about his family, get a house or rent a flat and finally express his daily life using a range of vocabulary. The student will also be able to use the three different tenses, which will help him/her to communicate and interact effectively.
  • The student will have the ability to understand each other and deal with situations according to his Linguistic lexicon. They will also be able to respond to questions during his studies at the level.
  • The student will learn how to express, in writing, personal things about him/herself, family, residence (home) and studies as well as writing in Arabic in the chat room with their teacher and colleagues.
  • By the end of this level, the student can communicate comfortably with native speakers and can express his idea, ask questions and make necessary suggestions. They will be able to participate in class discussions, use and understand vocabulary and oral work.

Recommended Study Habits:

  • Going to the Glossary activity and revising some vocabulary with its images or phrases.
  • Recording audio and sending it to the teacher for correction.
  • Writing about certain topics and commenting about the dialogues by expressing pictures or giving summaries on what the teacher has asked like audio or texts.

Course Outcome:

If the student passes this course with 75% at least, they will successfully move to the next level “Modern Standard Arabic for Beginner 2”.

  • Asking & demanding.
  • Guests and food.
  • Ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
  • Praying in Makkah & Madinah.

 

  • Grammar:
  • Positive/negative.
  • Masculine and feminine.
  • Adjectives
  • Prepositions
  • Key asking.

 

  • Vocabulary:
  • Names of jobs and places.
  • Daily activities.
  • Breakfast, lunch &dinner.
  • Types of vegetables and fruit.
  • Favourite foods& drinks.
  • Week days.
  • Praying, calling for prayer… etc.

Course Outline:

  • The student will learn the ability to communicate, identify his profession and studies expressing their religion using a range of vocabulary. They will also be learning the use of three different tenses, which will help them to communicate and interact effectively.
  • The student will improve the skills in reading with understanding of what he/she reads, including short topics, dialogues about food and reading food menus in restaurants.
  • The student will develop the ability to understand each other according to their Linguistic lexicon and respond to the questions in their studies at the level.
  • The student will learn how to express, in writing, some personal facts about themselves, family, residence (home), work, favourite food and drink and studies. They will also be able to write in Arabic in the chat room with their teacher and colleagues.
  • By the end of this level, they can communicate with native speakers, express their ideas, ask questions, and make necessary suggestions. They will be able to participate in class discussions and use and understand vocabulary and oral work better.

  • Going to the Glossary activity and revising some vocabulary with its images or phrases.
  • Recording some audio and send it to the teacher for correction.

  • Added and added to “Mudaf and Mudaf Elayh”.
  • Masculine and feminine.
  • Adjectives
  • Prepositions
  • Key asking.
  • Tenses: Past, present and futures

 

  • Vocabulary:
  • Names of jobs and places.
  • Daily activities.
  • Dictionary.
  • Types of vegetables and fruit.
  • Transportation.
  • Weather & temperature.
  • Four seasons.
  • Camping.
  • Hobbies.
  • Communities.

Course Outline:

  • Read and extract key information from short, very simple texts and written documents (messages, notices, instructions, etc.)
  • Interact in a basic way with a native speaker in simple, routine, predictable situations, requesting or providing factual information, coping with an unfamiliar language or unexpected responses by asking for repetition or clarification.
  • Write very simple notes, messages and short personal letters or emails providing essential information about themselves
  • Demonstrate an initial insight into very basic aspects of the culture and everyday life in areas where the language is spoken so as to respond.
  • Providing students with communicative opportunities to enable them to engage in conversations in which they express likes, agreements, things they want to do, compare and count things through class activities with their teacher and/or peers.
  • Class instructions are delivered in English. However, the Arabic language is introduced gradually allowing students to learn in their comfort zone.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in drilling practice, pair work, group work, word games and role play.
  • By the end of this level, the student can communicate with native speakers and can express their ideas, ask questions and make necessary suggestions. They will be able to participate in class discussions, understand and use vocabulary and oral work more effective.

Recommended Study Habits:

  • Going to the Glossary activity and revising some vocabulary with its images or phrases.
  • Recording audio and send it to the teacher for correction.
  • Writing about some topics or comment about the dialogues by expressing pictures or summaries on what the teacher requests like audio or texts.

Course Outcome:

If the student passes this course with 75% at least, they will successfully move to the next level “Modern Standard Arabic-Lower Intermediate 1”.
