ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Open to students who:
- Pass the “Modern Standard Arabic – Upper intermediate level 3” with 75% at least or pass the placement test and succeeded in this level.
- Have experience in using the Internet and ability to learn how to use our LMS – Moodle.

Objective:
- The course consolidates and extends the skills acquired on an Arabic Upper intermediate course or the level of competence attained by students who have completed over 180 – 200 hours of classroom learning.
- This course aims to build on students’ previous knowledge of Arabic to help them acquire advanced syntactical and morphological features of Modern Standard Arabic grammar for use in listening comprehension, as well as enhance reading, structure, writing, and speaking.
- Students acquire competencies to help them synthesize and analyze authentic materials. They will become familiar with a range of materials, including cultural, academic and social texts that will help them acquire competency in Arabic.
- The course covers 3 terms to enable learners starting from upper intermediate level to use Modern Standard Arabic for a variety of purposes in a wide range of communicative contexts across the four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- The course enables students to express themselves effectively, accurately and confidently in situations where functional competence in Modern Standard Arabic is expected.
- In additional to that enables students to implement a wide range of grammatical patterns as well as to use fairly sophisticated vocabulary and expressions.
- It also develops students’ ability to process the Arabic writing system accurately and fluently so that they can read and write a range of texts on different topics with ease.
Method:
- The course is taught in Arabic and includes coverage of the four skills of: listening, speaking, reading and writing. This is a good balance between understanding the systems of Arabic grammar and vocabulary as well as developing the skills of comprehending and using Arabic in speech and writing, with guided practice in language usage and use of authentic communicative activities.
- Teaching methods target language skills of the whole group as well as individual learners; making sure that every student is learning according to their own learning styles.
- This is based on 3 Levels. Each level consists of synchronous and asynchronous The synchronous activities consist of approximately 25 hours of interactive classes. The asynchronous activities are used to monitor private studying.
- Class size is limited to five to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.
- Over this entire course, students are required to use the whiteboard on the internet to take quizzes and retrieve assignment updates designed to evaluate your abilities to accomplish the intended learning outcomes.

Course Outline:
- The aim of Arabic Advanced Level 1 is to enhance students’ listening and speaking abilities through discussions on various relevant and contemporary topics in daily life. Expansion and use of vocabulary and structures are a focus at this level.
- Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.
- Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
- Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
- Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
- Class instructions are mostly delivered in Arabic language however a mixture of Arabic and English will be employed to introduce new grammatical topics. Students are encouraged to participate in drilling practice, pair work and group work. The various skills of the language are reinforced through relevant activities in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are expected to do homework and listening exercises outside the class.
- There are two consolidation sessions; one in the middle of the course and one at the end of the course. Consolidation exercises aim at practicing the learned materials through different activities.
- By the end of the course learners are expected to converse confidently in the topics they have covered throughout the course. They will also be able to read relatively longer and more complex texts and convey the meaning in their first Language with much accuracy. They will also be able to write passages using the vocabulary and structures they have learned.
Course Outcome:
If the student passes this course with 75% at least, they will successfully move to the next level “Modern Standard Arabic – Advanced Level 2”

- This course is designed for learners who have completed Arabic Advanced Level 1 or its equivalent. It aims at building students’ confidence and the ability to discuss more complicated topics in relation to consumerism, popular culture with a deeper understanding of culture and review of grammar.
- Class instructions are mostly delivered in Arabic language however a mixture of Arabic and English will be employed to introduce new grammatical topics. Students are encouraged to participate in drilling practice, pair work and group work. The various skills of the language are reinforced through relevant activities in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are expected to do homework and listening exercises in their own time outside the class.
- There are two consolidation sessions; one in the middle of the course and one at the end of the course. Consolidation exercises aim at practicing the learned materials through different activities.
- Teaching methods target language skills of the whole group as well as individual learners; making sure that every student is learning according to their own learning styles.

Course Outline:
- This course is designed for learners who have completed Arabic Advanced Level 2 or its equivalent. It aims to broaden the students’ vocabulary, communicative skills, views and understanding of the Middle East, of Arab history and of culture, with a range of topics; Orientalism, political systems, and history of the Middle East, topics for stimulating discussions and for developing speaking skills.
- Class instructions are mostly delivered in Arabic language however a mixture of Arabic and English will be employed to introduce new grammatical topics. Students are encouraged to participate in drilling practice, pair work and group work. The various skills of the language are reinforced through relevant activities in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are expected to do homework and listening exercises in their own time outside the class.
- There are two consolidation sessions; one in the middle of the course and one at the end of the course. Consolidation exercises aim at practicing the learned materials through different activities.

If the student passes this course with 75% at least, they will successfully move to the next level “Modern Standard Arabic – Most Advanced 1”.
Recommended Study Habits:
- Going to the Glossary activity and revising some vocabulary with its images or phrases.
- Listening to the videos of the letters and seeing the way of proficient pronouncing.
- Recording audio and sending them to the teacher for correction.
