Definition of Trust: A firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
Q. How do I place my trust in Allah?
1) The Holy Quran
First and foremost, to establish a firm belief and trust in Allah, there must be some form of connection between you and the Creator. This connection is established through understanding and following His words in The Holy Quran. Recite out of Love rather than because you should.
HOW?
To fully believe and resonate in your heart, you must:
- establish the intention (niyyah)
- recite the Quran,
- read the translation,
- understand the tafsir (the explanation of the Ayah).
BONUS: Learn the language – it helps immensely with the understanding, which results to further peace of mind and soul.
REMEMBER: Just as you put in the effort to study and excel in your education and field of work, as a Muslim, you should place greater effort in studying The Quran.
2) Du’a
“When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺.” [2:186]
A group of followers of the Prophet (s) asked him, ‘Is our Lord nearby so that we should talk to Him secretly, or is He far away, so that we should call out to him?’, and the following was revealed: And when My servants question you concerning Me — I am near, to them in My knowledge, and he informed them of this; I answer the call of the caller, by granting him his request, when he calls to Me; so let them respond to Me, My call to them to be obedient, and let them believe, [let them] persevere in faith, in Me that they might go aright, [that] they [might] become guided.
3) Belief in the Qadhaa’ & Qadr (Doom & Divine Decree)
The 6th Pillars of Iman (Faith) is to believe in Doom (Qadhaa’) which is the general decree of Allah that every human shall die, whereas a Divine decree (Qadr) is a particular decree of Allah or the execution of Qadhaa’, that a certain person is to die at a particular time and place. Hence, believing in this pillar entails believing that Allah has created everything and has foreordained its proper measure.
Moreover, The belief in Divine Predestination includes belief in four things:
- Allah is well acquainted with everything taking place, and His Knowledge encompasses everything.
- Allah has pre-assigned portions of everything in the preserved tablet.
- Nothing takes place in the heavens or on the earth without the will of Allah and his wish. Whatever Allah wills, takes place and whatever he does not, will do not take place.
- Allah is the creator of all things. There is no other creator besides him.
Believing in that all is pre-written before the creation, will create a sense of peace, serenity and ease in both the mind and the soul.
`Abdullah bin Hubairah said:
I heard Abu Tameem al-Jaishani say: I heard `Umar bin al Khattab (رضي الله عنه) say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “If you really put your trust in Allah, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds. Do you not see that they go out with empty stomachs and come back with full stomachs?”
4) Have good expectations of Allah (Husn al-Dhan)
Whatever Allah does it is for our best.
“Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.” [2:216]
Yet it may happen that you hate a thing which is good for you; and it may happen that you love a thing which is bad for you: because the soul inclines towards those desires which result in its destruction and its rejection of the religious obligations that would bring about its happiness.
Perhaps, then, even if you are averse to it, you will find much good in fighting, as a result of victory, martyrdom or reward; while, if you were to reject fighting, even if you would like to do so, you will find much evil, because then you may be subjugated, impoverished and denied the reward; God knows, what is good for you, and you know, this, not, so strive in what He commands you.

5) Don’t underestimate the power of Allah!
With Allah everything is possible!

“When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is!” [19:35]
When He decrees a thing, that is, [when] He will for it to happen, He only says to it, ‘Be!’, and it is (read fa-yakūnu because of an implied [pronoun] huwa [sc. fa-huwa yakūnu]; or read fa-yakūna because of an implied an [sc. an yakūna]). An example of this is His creating Jesus without [his having had] a father.
